success. Guest speakers included Valerie Hare, Margaret Hawkins, Kerrie
Haynes-Lovell, Dr Angus Martin and Dr Vicky Melfi.
The 2nd Australasian
Regional Environmental Enrichment Conference
The 2nd
REEC was held in November 2008, with Auckland Zoo being the proud host. With
the theme of the three day conference was “A
Holistic Approach to Environmental Enrichment”, over 80 delegates from
throughout the region attended. Two keynote speakers presented at the
conference; Dr Lorne Roberts from the School of Natural Sciences at Unitec New
Zealand and Bruce Murdock, Carnivore Manager at Australia Zoo. The 14 papers
which were presented covered a wide range of species and enrichment topics and
led to interesting and diverse discussions amongst delegates at the workshops
held in the latter stages of the conference. The organising committee were
delighted at the level of support and enthusiastic participation received from
the Australasia region.
