Mollie Bloomsmith

Mollie
Bloomsmith is the Director of Behavioral Management at the Yerkes National
Primate Research Center where she supervises the enrichment, socialization and
animal training programs. She has published more than 100 scientific papers
evaluating behavioral management and its impact on animal welfare in
laboratories and zoos, with a special concentration on the well-being
of nonhuman primates. Since 1992, Mollie has taught workshops on behavioral
management to individuals working in zoos and animal laboratories. She has
served as an Editorial Advisor to The Shape of Enrichment since 2005. She is
also on the Editorial Boards for two scientific journals focusing on animal
welfare. Mollie is a founding Board Member of Chimp Haven, a federally funded
chimpanzee sanctuary, and is the Research Advisor to the Chimpanzee Species
Survival Plan working to manage the chimpanzee population in U.S. zoos. Mollie
holds a B.S. degree in Animal Behavior from the University of California at
Davis, and a Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology from the Georgia Institute of
Technology.
