Marc Fox
Position: UK—Ireland
Regional Committee
Hi, my name is Marc Fox and I am the Assistant Section
Manager of the Carnivore Department at Marwell Wildlife, a conservation charity
based at its Zoological Park in Hampshire, UK, as well as being very active in
Zimbabwe and other parts of Africa.
I am also one of three co-chairs of the BIAZA Carnivore
Focus Group.
I have worked at Marwell Wildlife for 10 years, after having
completed a National Diploma in Animal Management and an Advanced National Certificate
in Zoo Animal Management.
My first 2 ˝ years at Marwell I worked with okapi, zebra,
Somali wild ass, Przewalski horse, red panda, coati and many antelope species
including addax and bongo, I then joined the Carnivore Section working with 10
species of cats including Amur tiger and snow leopard along with many small
carnivores including fossa, meerkat, and bat-eared fox.
I developed a particular interest in environmental
enrichment and I now lead the Marwell Enrichment Group, consisting of a cross
section of keepers and staff from other departments to steer the development of
enrichment research, implementation, and interpretation. One of the group’s
aims is to actively and positively raise the profile of Zoological Park’s
efforts to enrich the lives of captive animals to our visiting guests and
through the media.
