Hello, my name is Manuela Fraga Geronymo Sgai. I am a veterinarian and a Ph.D. student in the Department of Animal Reproduction in the School of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechny in the University of São Paulo. I have been interested in environmental enrichment since graduation, when I had the opportunity to participate in an environmental enrichment project for great apes.

Still in the graduation, I developed a project for callitrichids (small Neotropical primates), in which I learned a lot and became adept and loyal to these techniques. During my MSc I kept working with these primates, evaluating the influence of environmental enrichment in endocrine and behavioral parameters of animals kept in groups or isolated. My results indicated that enrichment diminished deviating behaviors performed by the animals, which improved their levels of welfare. I attended the ICEE 2005 and ICEE 2007, when I had the opportunity to present papers, discuss them, and learn from other people’s work.
