Cristiane Schilbach Pizzutto
Positions: Core Group, Shape—Brasil
Coordinator
I am Cristiane Schilbach
Pizzutto, veterinarian, graduate and post-graduate of the College of Veterinary Medicine of the University of São Paulo
(FMVZ-USP). Currently I am getting my post-doctoral degree in the Animal
Reproduction Department of FMVZ-USP.
I started to work with
enrichment in 1997 with the attempt to help one of the two existing gorillas in
Brasil. Since then I have not been able to stop. In 1999, I had the opportunity
to participate in the 4th ICEE and attain more knowledge in that
area. I started planting the idea of environmental enrichment in Brasil through
seminars and courses and encouraging professionals to look at caged animals a
little more with their hearts. It was a volunteer job, hard and tiring, but one
that I always believed in.
My dream was realized when I was
able to obtain my doctoral degree with a thesis in environmental enrichment.
Today, I work with environmental enrichment in my post-doctoral work, with the
support of the Animal Reproduction Department, where the number of research
projects associated with environmental enrichment – endocrinology –
animal wellbeing grows.
Today, I am very proud of
being the Shape—Brasil Coordinator. With the other members, I will strive
for the improvement of professionals involved in this area. The success of our
first REEC was our first conquest.
