International Conference on Environmental Enrichment (ICEE)

ICEE Mission

The mission of the ICEE is to improve the wellbeing of captive animals by providing a venue for the exchange of information among the many diverse groups that participate in environmental enrichment. A key feature of the ICEE is the participation and interaction of animal welfare scientists and all those responsible for the care of captive animals. To further this mission, the ICEE Committee organizes a biennial conference, with published proceedings, in locations around the globe.

11^th ICEE Conference in 2013 – Kruger National Park, South Africa

The 11^th ICEE conference will be held in the summer of 2013 and hosted by the National Zoological Gardens, South Africa. This will be the first ICEE conference held in the field and exciting activities are sure to be included! Watch this section of the website and the Events News page for more details on the conference, post/pre-conference workshop and activities, and scholarships.

If you are interested in submitting a bid to host a future ICEE, please contact the committee secretary, Margaret Hawkins. Bids are now being accepted for the 11^th ICEE to be held in 2013.

Drs. Jill Mellen and David Shepherdson established the International Conference on Environmental Enrichment (ICEE) in 1993. To date conferences have been hosted by:

ICEE Committee

The ICEE Committee oversees all aspects of the application process for future conference hosts, selects future conference venues, advises the current ICEE host upon request, and conducts the business meetings.
