Meredith Bashaw

 

Position: Core Group

 

Meredith has studied animal behavior at Zoo Atlanta, the San Diego Zoo's Wild Animal Park, and The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore. She is currently an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where she teaches statistics, learning, and an interdisciplinary course in animal welfare. Her two primary research interests are animal social relationships and how captive environments affect animal behavior. She has studied species ranging from orangutans to big cats, and is currently working on projects observing chimpanzees, squirrel monkeys, giraffe, otters, and sitatunga.

 

Meredith received her BS in Biology and Religion from Duke University, and her MS and PhD in Experimental Psychology with a Biology minor from Georgia Institute of Technology. She first became involved with The Shape of Enrichment while serving as head of the Behavioral Husbandry Committee at Zoo Atlanta in the late 1990s and is excited to be a member of the Shape Core Group!
